Criminal Case Timeline

 

Superior Court:

  • An alleged criminal offense occurs
  • A warrant is issued & served
  • An arrest is made
  • An appearance hearing before a Magistrate Judge
  • If bond can be granted by Magistrate Judge, bond and conditions are set; If not- 
  • There must be a bond order negotiated with the prosecution or a hearing before a Superior Court Judge
  • District Attorney's office receives the warrant
  • Investigation is conducted
  • Grand Jury convenes
  • Arraignment is conducted
  • Trial is held or a plea is negotiated
  • Sentencing is issued
  • 

State Court:

  • An alleged criminal offense occurs
  • A warrant is issued & served
  • An arrest is made
  • Bond/Bail is set
  • Solicitor's Office receives warrant
  • Investigation is conducted
  • Accusation is filed
  • Arraignment is ordered
  • Trial is held or a plea is negotiated
  • Sentencing is issued
